SolShine Energy Alternatives and SiteReach, sponsors of the Sept. 9th live concert by The Mavericks and Paul Thorn at The Coves Amphitheater in Union Hall, with Transition Basics as the show’s charity partner, are offering concert goers a firsthand look at an innovative whole-home battery energy storage system that addresses the challenging issues of utility power.
At the event, which begins at 5 p.m., there will be a demonstration of multiple Tesla automobiles being charged by a Mobile Power CUBE W27. Three additional solar-charged Mobile Power CUBE’s will provide backup power to the amphitheater, ticket booth, concessions, visitors’ center, and a nearby residence.
Roanoke-based SolShine and Rocky Mount-based SiteReach have partnered to offer this practical, innovative mobile solution for power assurance and emergency power.
Instrumental in developing the Mobile Power CUBE, SolShine Energy Alternatives is a full-service provider and installer of photovoltaic systems for residences and businesses. SolShine owner and electrical engineer Rick Brown first met Dennis Crumpler, developer of The Coves, when SolShine was tapped to provide upgrades to the existing solar array at The Coves.
After having seen the impact of power grid outage on the residents of the Coves, Crumpler knew that reliance on the grid in our service area was going to become an increased issue for new residents moving into the Coves community.
In 2022, Crumpler approached Brown and SolShine about a partnership with SiteReach, a company that was already working on a prototype portable battery storage unit.
The Mobile Power CUBE W27, which is capable of providing power derived from any power source, including from the grid, generators, solar and wind, was deployed earlier this year at the Union Hall development. The system is capable of conveying power to a whole home for more than 24 hours without recharging and for days if consumption regulation measures are taken.
Powered by self-contained and safe AGM lead acid batteries with a smart inverter system, the 4-foot-by-4-foot-by-5-foot CUBE can be deployed virtually in any location.
Constructed of steel, the Mobile Power Cube W27 is part of a series of models that will provide larger battery and smaller capacity models with lithium storage, all designed for portability.
Brown said that he foresees the CUBE could help existing customers with solar arrays provide power when the grid is off line as well as benefit new solar customers who want the security of power without grid usage from day one. The system could be a source of power for special, remote events.
The Mobile Power Cube may also provide emergency power backups for industrial use or during catastrophic weather events where reliable power is needed immediately when the grid power is out.
