Sometimes things are just meant to be. That’s the attitude of Nancy Wylie, a native of Fairfax, who always knew she wind up on a lake.

As a child, her family vacationed on the Finger Lakes Region in upstate New York. In recent years, Nancy’s visits to Smith Mountain Lake became more frequent, especially after her childhood best friend, Pam, moved to Moneta 10 years ago.

On a cold, overcast March morning, Nancy was at The Coves, inspecting her newly excavated lot with Southern Heritage Homes’ construction manager Frank Hodges. Her excitement was evident as Hodges explained her home’s layout, including where the windows and doors would be located.

Nancy had purchased the lot in 2020 and has been waiting for construction prices to stabilize before ordering her home. Although interest rates have risen, she’s considering refinancing later on.

“God guided me through this entire process, starting with Southern Heritage Homes which led me to the Coves and then the process to move forward one step at a time.”

Nancy’s Southern Living-inspired, 2,800-square-foot Cape Cod “forever home,” as she referred to it, will serve as a gathering place for her three adult children and their families. The home will feature ample space with spectacular channel views and when Nancy isn’t entertaining her family and friends, she can enjoy the comforts of one-level living.

Nancy found The Coves and her dream home purely by happenstance. Through word of mouth, a friend of a friend told her about The Coves and Southern Heritage Homes. After taking a Southern Heritage Homes’ plant tour and finding her dream location, she knew she was in the right place and in good hands.

The home, which will be in production soon, is expected to take 10 weeks to build with completion estimated in about 120 days. Due to future economic uncertainty, Wyle moved up her building timeline by a couple years but is comfortable with her decision.

When her home is completed later this year, Nancy can transition from her Fairfax home to living a life of semi-retirement at The Coves.

Nancy said she is excited to immerse herself in the Smith Mountain Lake community and looks forward to becoming active in a local church and giving back through charitable service.
